It started with payment fraud. Fraud in Ethiopia is not a new problem — but it is a growing one. As mobile banking and digital transfers became the norm, a new wave of forged receipts and manipulated screenshots started hitting small businesses hard. Owners had no reliable way to verify a payment before handing over goods.
VeriPay was founded to change that. By connecting directly to bank transaction data and applying intelligent receipt analysis, we give businesses real-time confidence that a payment is genuine — before the risk becomes a loss.
But checking payments was only part of the problem. Business owners were also keeping invoices in spreadsheets and expenses in notebooks, and facing a new requirement: e-invoicing through the Ministry of Revenue's EIMS. So VeriPay grew into one platform for the whole back office: invoicing with VAT and withholding tax calculated automatically, expense tracking, customer and supplier records, EIMS invoice registration on the EIMS plan, and payment verification that matches each payment to its invoice.
Today we support Ethiopia's most-used payment channels: CBE, CBE Birr, Telebirr, and Bank of Abyssinia. Our goal is to expand coverage as the Ethiopian fintech ecosystem grows and to be the platform businesses of every size run on.
